Searching the HKSFC Glossary CD-ROM with Suntek Search Engine
“An English-Chinese Glossary of Securities, Futures and Financial Terms (Third Edition)” 《英漢證券期貨及財務用語匯編》( 第三版 ) published by The Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong contains 14,200 securities, futures, and financial terms, as well as information about relevant organizations, guidelines and regulations, etc. The information is structured into five parts. The hardcopy of the glossary contains 683 pages. Making the glossary data searchable electronically is an obvious requirement for the user.
Unlike free-text documents, the glossary is composed of structured records, each of which contains an English term followed by translations that are applicable to Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan (wherever applicable, translations that are applicable to both Mainland and Hong Kong are also provided).
Suntek’s search engine provides a simple user interface for entering queries and specifying the sections to search. The search interface is shown below.
Suntek’s search engine allows a user to search for any word that appears anywhere in the record as a stand-alone word or a substring of a word. For example, a search for 股票 returns the result shown below.
The user can print or save the results for future reference. The sections containing the results are shown at the right edge of the result page.
The user can also use “Headword Search” to confine the results to those starting with the query term. For instance, a headword search for 股票 returns the result shown below.
